I am not wrong pwnie. :( certainly not completely....
I would be wrong if this site was still working on branding. But it isn't. So the logo is taking a backseat to other features. Just as it would be on other sites that have gotten past branding their logo. :) But thanks for trying to direct me on the proper way to go about logo creation.
I like the logo as it is, being that the logo you are seeing is made up of to parts. One being the cross hairs and P, the other being the PWNED w/ tagline. Each in their own right a separate logo to be used in different mediums. You are looking at it as a whole.
The tagline for it is fine imo. It is hard to define the site other then "A Society of Gamers" without segregating out groups of gamers, being that of FPS, PC gamers, console gamers, ect. And making it seem that is what this site solely caters too.
As pwned stated above, main reason it is there is to focus attention that this site is a gaming site.

No longer working on branding? You have no idea what you're talking about, clearly. You NEVER stop working on branding your product. Ever. EVER. And no design aspect ever "takes a backseat" to anything. It's the face of your company/product, like your clothing choice when going to an interview: it matters. A lot. But thanks for trying to lecture me on an industry I've been working in for over a decade.

nike still has the same logo after 30 years (maybe more?) of being around. same with tons of other companies. and for someone who is 26, youve been in the web design industry since you were 16? or rather before you were 16 as you said over a decade. perhaps youve been working on doing stuff since then, but i doubt you were "in the industry" anymore than half the ppl who make funny flash vids can say they are in the "movie industry". now i do agree sometimes it is good to re-imagine your logo, but weve not been around enough to do that.

I know a lot about what I am talking about and the creation of the logo and branding ON the website is over as far as I can see for right now. It is what it is as the website is still young and has moved on to other areas of design. You may have taken my words out of context and used them to encompass the broad range and industry for branding a product to a consumer. I thought since we were talking about logo creation and branding for the face of the website, that may of been where the conversation would stay.

Small website this is, some things WILL take a backseat as other functions and ideas are implemented as it is with pretty much every small startup with a small staff. I am not wrong and I know what I am talking about. I may not have a decade of living in 1996 under my belt, but I do have some experience. If this was a multi million dollar site with focus groups dedicated to sole aspects / assets of the website / company. Then you would be absolutely right for most of what you say.

Now how about these other parts of the site that you feel need attention?

Mismatched fonts. I do believe they are for the most part in the same class of font style, however they may have boldness and sizes that are different. It does look out of place in most sections and I think this is a good idea to look into making a more fluid and tranquil setting for viewing and reading. Right now after looking back over the site and comparing the fonts, it does come across as chaotic and mismatched. Not really a big deal as it is right now. But should be looked into fixing as soon as possible.

Not knowing this is a gaming website? This goes back to adding some graphic polish to the home page and signup. Like I said I think it is bland and sterile imo. I like flashy sites myself with contrasting colors , nice detailed graphics, in depth about us pages and a good tutorial when signing up. Or a features tutorial available after signup.

on a side note to this, what about our profiles do you not like?
what do you like?
we have 3 different styles to choose from as of right now. Each one is fully editable using CSS / HTML.

do you think it would be a wise decision to include some pre-defines for users to use instead of trying to come in with CSS / HTML editing knowledge. which is what the current 3 profiles require for proper editing.

Profiles aren't bad, but they're not great either. Customization is great, but you absolutely have to regulate it strictly. It sucks, but people won't NOT be a part of the site just because they can't post 100 photos in their bio section, or endless flash/embed objects. Example? Facebook. Tore MySpace a new asshole. Why? Because it's more streamlined. You don't have to worry about going to someone's page and having a mess to look at. But you can still move stuff around, hide/show boxes and apps, etc. Something along those lines, with some better visual customization would be perfect. I have a free day tomorrow (I think?) or today, rather as it were: I'll go and try to whip up a decent template design, using the profile page as a content area example. Making the website look streamlined will not ward off current members (even if they say it will, they're lying), and it will encourage less web/tech savvy folks to join up and contribute, as it will be more friendly and easy to navigate and understand. Again, Facebook: it changed to make things better, and every time it does people bitch and complain that they want old shit back, but do they leave? No. A month down the road, they're all used to it and in love with it, until Facebook changes something again and they bitch some more... rinse, repeat. But one thing always stands: the site is always streamlining things better. Evolving, if you will, but never risking the integrity of the overall structure and control. If you give people control, they use and often abuse it. Fact of the matter is: most people aren't qualified to have that much creative control because they're rubbish at it. Websites like Facebook and Twitter know this, which is why they strictly maintain the framework of their website with enough customization to keep people entertained.

So are you still around here or what there my little pwny? Sorry I am not trying to knock your critique of the new site. I just get defensive rather quickly about the site., when people start rambling off things that should be different when these things have all ready been discussed before release.

Please come back around and share some wisdom, am lonely without textual relations :(
