They removed backwards compatibility within their current generation. WTF! At least wait till the next console to figure your shit out!

It was because it was hardware based BC. Every BC ps3 had a ps2 inside of it. That is expensive.

I know that was why it cost so much, and when they removed it, they did do a price drop. They also were spending 900 on a console at that point. So they were losing a ton of money. It was the smart thing to do. Even though many think not, if they kept it, they would go bankrupt.

Every console is sold at a loss, for every developer...Sega, Nintendo, Sony and MS all lose/lost money one the individual machine. Granted, most aren't at a 50% mark-up, but that's what killed the 3DO. They tried to sell the system for cost and NOBODY was willing to shell out $900 1993 dollars for a game machine.

That is true. At launch most consoles (The Wii didn't, but then it was a gamecube) are sold at a loss. However the PS3 was more-so than its competitors and stayed at a loss past when it should be having a price reduction to build for the company. The 3DO is just a sad tale all around. As is the Neo-Geo AES.

Playstation sucks cause with all the awesomeness it could of done with augmented reality. It choose to do a fucking story book.. Yay! Wonderbook ftw... :/
