About Me:

Why do I need Gunnars?
People who use any kind of computer screen, LCD TV for gaming including those on a Blackberry, cellular telephone (text messaging)or other digital hand held device, are at increased risk of developing Digital Eye Fatigue (DEF) or Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). The American Optometric Association recognizes CVS as a condition caused by repeatedly stressing some aspect of the eyes or visual system.

Its this constant stress on the eyes and visual system that causes the symptoms of DEF and CVS, which include blurred vision, headache, eye strain, dry eyes, difficulty focusing the eyes at various distances, double vision, light sensitivity and neck and backaches.

To meet this growing and important need as people of all ages experience more time with digital devices, Gunnar Optiks has developed a revolutionary line eye wear based on patent-pending lens technology, specifically formulated to combat the effects of DEF and CVS.

Gunnar proprietary lens technology lets you spend more time working or playing at the computer without feeling the adverse effects often associated with doing so. Gunnar i-AMPTM technology relaxes the ocular muscle responsible for focusing one's eyes at close distances. By putting this muscle more at ease, strain is reduced, and productive time increased. Innovative Gunnar frames and lenses increase the moisture pocket around the eyes, virtually eliminating dry eyes. Patent-pending i-AMPTM technology includes a scientifically formulated amber tint to eliminate additional stress placed on the eyes from external light sources such as pervasive fluorescent lighting systems. The unique Gunnar anti-reflective coating has also been specially formulated to contribute to the delivery of the most comprehensive over-the-counter solution available today to address the effects of Digital Eye Fatigue and Computer Vision Syndrome.

Gunnar for Gamers...
Gunnar Optiks for gamers will enhance what you see on your screen while keeping you focused on what you love most- pwnin' noobs. Basically, Gunnars allow you to play longer without the usual wear and tear on your eyes. Whether it's leveling up or putting in the hours for the next MLG pro circuit event, Gunnars have been proven by pro MLG players to take their competitive edge to new frontiers. Members from Str8 Rippin' and Instinct first tested Gunnars at MLG Toronto in August and look to use them for LANs leading up to MLG Orlando at at the pro circuit event in early October. Gunnars can also be seen on MLG Rainbow Six Vegas 2 pro player, Phobia A and his team Lost Cause. Phobia approached us after experiencing dry eyes when practicing with his team after a long day at school.

Check out what Phobia A had to say on his MLG blog and recent ESPN interview:

Phobia A's Blog

ESPN interview with Phobia

World of Warcraft players, or anyone who devotes long hours to MMOs (Warhammer!) will feel even more comfortable while wearing Gunnars especially for those who like to game in a dark room. PC gamers who play FPS games will see an immediate difference with COD 4, Unreal etc. On the console, Halo players will see a dramatic benefit as colors seem more vibrant and squinting at the screen after you've stuck someone will be a thing of the past. At MLG Toronto, all players competing in Gears of War, RB6V2 and Halo noticed immediate benefits while testing Gunnars at our booth.

Check out videos featuring Gunnars:

We had the Amp Energy Pro team beta test Gunnars for 9 weeks straight (12 hours/day gaming) on the Amp Your Game National Gaming Tour. Nelson "G-SpOT" Triana is seen here on National TV at :30 seconds:

Gorath said at November 3, 2008 at 6:33 am:

So, in an earlier comment on your page, I said your glasses look like just a pair of driving glasses with a fancy price on them. My friend has a pair of the "Shredder" Optiks. He let me borrow them for a day (Last Friday actually). Since my job centers around computers and I'm usually surrounded by monitors all day I thought I'd ask him to let me try them out. These things did make a difference. My eyes didn't feel as wary and strained at the end of the day as they normally do. That fatigue I normally experience towards the end of the day wasn't as bad as it usually was. I went home without needing to crash completely.

I'm definitely wanting to invest in a pair of these. The Weezer looks pretty nice. Do you guys have any specials going for pwned.com members?

To anyone wondering about Gunnar's eye-wear, get yourself a pair, especially if you're pulling long hours in front of the screen.

That's great to hear Gorath. We're working on some specials right now, stay tuned! For us the best part of wearing Gunnars during the day at work is so that we aren't burnt out to play games all night.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and maybe you can help me. I saw this page because my boy kept staring and pointing at the guy wearing the glasses. I read a little about Gunner, checked out the site, and googled these guys but the reviews were all over the place. Some were good, but Popular mechanics wasn't nice to them. I have a special needs child who would play video games for days if we let him. He's played until he starts screaming and rubbing his eyes. I'll pay if these work, but I'd feel like a fool if they didn't work, or if they hurt his eyes. He has perfect eyesight. There isn't a store near me that has them and theres a guy on the board who looks like he's been trying for awhile to get some help from them, but hasn't gotten any. And don't say I can get my money back if I order online, because I have so much to do, I'd probably forget. And these aren't cheap. Like I said, my boy was staring and begging for them, probably because the yellow looks like his dad's shooting glasses. If they work, I'm all for it. Have any of you guys tried these? For hours at a time? How strong are the frames? Are there other, better options? Please let me know what you think of them. Thanks, in advance!

Hi all! I didn't get any responses about anyone who has used these, but I did find this article: http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/09/high-performance-eyewear-guess-again/#comments

Gunnar Optiks said at November 18, 2008 at 4:11 pm:

Hey Mamacats, we have a whole roster of pro competitive gamers using the Gunnars now with all positive reviews. They are especially effective when you or your son are close to the TV or computer screen. When I mean close, I mean the regular distance that most people find themselves when they are in front of a computer screen/laptop. A lot of young gamers sit very close to the TV so Gunnars are very effective in this regard. Since your son has perfect vision, wherever he is sitting relative to the TV he will benefit from the Gunnars. What ends up happening is that you'll find your son wearing the Gunnars simply out of habit...just like brushing one's teeth everyday. Hope this helps, if you want more info please feel free to message us.

Yo Raiden, yah we're gamers over here...we play alot of the top games on MLG (Halo 3, GOW, RB6V2, WOW) right now and one of our guys is an MLG Pro for RB6V2. Halo MLG playlist is on constant matchmaking or custom games are set up. We got several guys who are WOW addicts and now warhammer is out...the gunnars are a huge help in playing longer without the classic bloodshot eyes. CSS and COD 4 although we play RTS games too. Generally a lot of people here play different games, but I would say that the games I listed are the ones that we play the most.

raiden said at September 28, 2008 at 6:08 pm:

Good Answers!! I had to ask because I saw the videos of the founder and the Doctor talking about Gunnars and it just seemed like a bunch of corporate people trying to make a buck off of us gamers with fancy talk. I hope the "Wow" effect mentioned in the video isn't just a smoke and mirrors gag. I'll watch your progress and hopefully you guys are still around at Christmas time so I can put it on my list from Santa. How did the MLG pro get his Gunnars? Did he buy them and approach you or are you paying him to wear them? Just questions to help me decided if I should buy or continue to wait for feed back. Since you guys game maybe I could challenge the Gunnar employees (not gunnar hired players) to a friendly competition for free glasses?

Gunnar Optiks said at September 29, 2008 at 10:39 am:

Yo Raiden, just responding to your last post. We had over a dozen MLG pros approach us at MLG Toronto for Gunnars. A lot of them play full time so around 10-12 hours a day and have been doing this for a few years now. Yep, players bought them. We have had a ton of great feedback and the point of it all is that it helps players play longer and pretty much anyone who uses a digital device. There should be some unbiased reviews going up sometime soon...yah wait it out before you make your decision, you'll hear from a lot of people that they work and that's really all that matters. If it was a crappy product gamers especially would sniff out the "smoke and mirrors gag". Message us to play, what games do you play the most?

pseudopseudo said at September 20, 2008 at 6:09 pm:

So, a week ago I wrote Gunnar's Customer Service an e-mail asking a question (that'll decide whether I get a pair or not) and no one's responded. What gives?
