So, let me first start off by saying this is the first blog I've written here besides testing it out. I do feel that I should say something here though. I'm not sure if anyone like NIN or anything but not sure if you all heard Trent Reznor from NIN has released a new album, Ghosts I-IV. This is the first time a major artist has released an album without a record label. Now I know what you are going say, "Radiohead did it first", and that is KINDA true, but in reality it was all a marketing ploy launched by them and the lable. Don't believe me? Now I won't go into the Radiohead stuff because that's not what this blog is about. Anyway, with that said, I really admir what Trent is doing with his music and how he feels about the music industry. I think if I would want any person to really strive through this new age of music, it would be him. He knows his technology, he knows his audience, he knows what's happening current day with and on the internet. I really think that this album/model could help pave the way into the future of digital music and actually helping artists make money for what they love to do and what they believe in.
As far as the album is concerned. I am a big fan of instrumental music, it makes life more interesting in what your doing. It basically takes you on a journey that you decide as you go along with music. This definitely has flavors of the Fragile, Year Zero, and a bit of With Teeth, so if you liked any of those albums, I would recommend checking this out.
Now I am not asking you to buy the album, just go to ghosts.nin.com and you can download a version of the album for free, infact, its DRM free. How does that make you feel? You should be jumping in joy if you ask me. Now let's say the free download of 9 songs doesn't float your boat. Well, download the $5 dollar version, hell download whatever version you like. Now remember, when you buy albums like this you are the one paving the way for the music industry, if you like this concept and ideas of how to distribute music, by all means buy it, if you think its lame, download it for free. Either way you have nothing to lose. Anyway, check it out, let me know what you think!
